The Journey Begins

12/26/2000

Baby, it's cold outside

Day One. It is scary. How do I go from being able to walk 6 miles a day to 20 miles a day? How will I handle my blood sugar levels, increase my endurance, make room in my life for LOTS and lots of hours of exercise, face the brutal cold of a New England winter, and balance it with my work schedule and dating life?

My friend Rawson says that it is better to feel minor pain for many days that major pain for a few. I agree. I will keep that in mind whenever I want to skip a training session. Only 4.5 months to go before the big event, and working a desk job all day, I have major work ahead of me.

Got my first letter of encouragement from my parents today:

Thank you for your visit-Dick is excited about your walk, doesn't care if you are only able to do a mile-just the fact that you are setting a goal-Feels like you are able to understand how he feels when he wants to go in a race or a marathon even though he may not finish-just having the goal and making the attempt-we are very proud of you no matter what you are able to do-let us be the first to pledge and of course I will do some taping of the walk if you let me . Love, us
